Is this post working?

Your LinkedIn engagement rate,
in plain numbers.

Likes alone don’t tell you much. 50 reactions on a post 400 people saw is a great post. 50 reactions on a post 20,000 people saw is a quiet one. Engagement rate puts the two together, so you can compare posts fairly.

This free LinkedIn engagement rate calculator takes the numbers from your post’s analytics: impressions, reactions, comments, reposts and, if you have them, clicks. It works out your engagement rate by impressions, and by followers if you add your follower count. Add a few posts and it shows your average, so you can see which ones beat it and which kinds of posts are worth writing again.

How to calculate LinkedIn engagement rate

  1. On LinkedIn, open your post and press View analytics under it.
  2. Copy the impressions, reactions, comments and reposts into the calculator.
  3. Add clicks and your follower count if you have them.
  4. Press Add post to keep it in the list, and compare it with your average.

The engagement rate formula

Engagement rate by impressions = (reactions + comments + reposts + clicks) ÷ impressions × 100. That’s the one LinkedIn’s own analytics is closest to, and the fairest way to compare posts.

Engagement rate by followers swaps impressions for your follower count. It’s handy when you don’t have impressions, or to compare yourself with someone else’s public numbers.

Tip: Comments are worth more than reactions. A comment takes effort and starts a conversation that keeps the post alive. The calculator shows them on their own for that reason.

What is a good engagement rate on LinkedIn

It depends on your audience size, your field and the kind of post, so be careful with anyone’s single number. Small accounts often see higher rates than big ones, because their followers know them personally.

Your job is to beat your own average. Add your last ten posts and look at the top three. What do they have in common? A story, a strong opinion, a carousel? Write more of that.

Turn the numbers into better posts

When a post does well, look at its first lines. Those decide whether people click “…more”. Test your next opening with the LinkedIn hook checker.

When a post does badly, try a different hour before you blame the post. The best time to post on LinkedIn planner shows when your audience is online. And if you want more comments, start by commenting more yourself. The LinkedIn comment generator helps.

Questions about the LinkedIn engagement rate calculator.

How do you calculate engagement rate on LinkedIn?

Add up reactions, comments, reposts and clicks, divide by impressions and multiply by 100. To calculate it by followers, divide by your follower count instead.

What is a good LinkedIn engagement rate?

There’s no single answer, because it changes with audience size, field and post type. The useful question is whether a post beats your own average. Add a few posts to see yours.

Where do I find my LinkedIn post impressions?

Open your post on LinkedIn and press View analytics under it. You’ll see impressions, reactions, comments and reposts there.

Should I count clicks?

If you have them, yes. Clicks show people acted on the post. Leave the field empty if LinkedIn doesn’t show them for that post.

Are my numbers saved?

Only in this browser, so your list is still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to Wiral’s server.
